The United States and El Salvador signed the Reciprocal Trade Agreement on January 29, 2026, which sets the framework for eliminating the 10% tariff on certain Salvadoran exports under CAFTA-DR. The agreement will enter into force once both countries complete their domestic legal procedures and notify each other in writing, a date that is expected to be announced soon by the governments.

The Port of La Unión has been reactivated as a strategic hub for RO/RO cargo in El Salvador, specializing in the handling of vehicles and rolling equipment. Its modern infrastructure allows efficient reception of RO/RO vessels, helping to decongest Acajutla Port and positioning La Unión as a key alternative for automotive and project-related imports in the region.

As El Salvador continues to expand its infrastructure, the country is receiving large scale construction equipment, modular structures, and specialized machinery for major public and private projects. BFI specializes in handling project cargo and oversized shipments, providing door to door solutions for complex and high value operations.
